![]() Here, beneath a dim skylight 140 years ago, acting assistant paymaster William F. ![]() Liberatore steered the sub over the Monitor’s forward section, a wreckage of iron plates and frames that once composed the officers’ and captain’s quarters. He toggled a switch, light flooded the void, and the chiseled bow of the USS Monitor, the Civil War’s most celebrated ship, appeared on the screen. “It’s coming up right now,” Liberatore said. A thick smudge of white light pulsed like a heartbeat on the readout, growing bigger by the second. Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution’s Johnson-Sea-Link II submersible slowed, and pilot Don Liberatore turned on its sonar. Really it would be weird if you sectioned off any 10,000 square foot area of "yard" in Florida and didn't find almost all of these creatures lol.Sixteen miles off north Carolina’s Cape Hatteras and 240 feet beneath the surface of the Atlantic, the ocean bottom was as gray, pocked and silent as the moon. Outside of the Diving Bell Spider which is not native to florida but does exist in some of its fresh water lakes. However, in Florida it would not be at all unlikely to find nearly every single species represented in Grounded in the same ~10,000 sqaure foot enclosed yard. There are a couple instances of creatures that can technically be found in California but generally not within any kind of proximity to one another. That being said, the hitch here is that California is a very long state so for example Daphnia Pulex (the water flea) is only found in some larger rivers and lakes in California and is not common outside of that. It's possible there is a similar situation there as I do know that California is host to at least a substantial Orchid enthusiast population. ![]() ![]() I can't speak to California on this though. That being said I did present the argument that though they are not native to Florida either they are somewhat common due to the size and scope of the Orchid enthusiast population in Florida. CMV.Įh, technically CA doesn't have the particular species of Bombardier beetle or Green Shield Bug depicted in Grounded or Diving Bell spiders but barring some semantics yeah you are correct.Įdit: As u/TransitionVirtual mentioned above, Orchid Mantis are not native to California. if you needed to make a video game about the worlds most irresponsibile parent putting their kids into the most dangerous environment imaginable occupied by the angriest animals in existence why would you pick the Australia of the United States. However Florida has a nearly identical and closely related species of beetle called the Blister Beetle, the only difference being they are incapable of actually ejecting the caustic substance in their body but if you squish one with your hand you will feel your skin burn and you will be left with a blister. To the best of my knowledge of all the creatures in Grounded, Florida is only missing 1 of them. In fact in the research I did on this topic (I just had kidney surgery and have been bored out of my mind for a week) there is no other Geographical region that contains a higher percentage of the total creatures in Grounded currently. So what is it? The creatures.Ī lot of people have said Maine or California but if you actually do some digging you'll find out that ~60%-70% of all the creatures in Grounded are not native to either of those states.īut I live in the hell hole swamp that is Florida and I can assure you that 98% of the creatures in Grounded can be easily found almost anywhere in Florida. Sure there is the absolute lack of terrain elevation, the complete lack of a basement, the subterrainian layer of water if you go more than a few inches down, the stupidly cliche gas station sign, the stereotypically Florida house siding, Wendull Tully's stupid old ass managing to lose his kids in the most Florida-man way possible (Apparently none of them are his?), the absolute lack of government regulation that allows Ominent to even exist and just the sheer relentless aggression of all the creatures in the game.īut that isn't what does it for me. As a Floridian that absolutely hates Florida I can assure you there is no other place in the United States that Grounded could take place in.
